Qahwa Documentary Authority

Documented Producer Ecosystems

Every producer ecosystem Qahwa sources from is documented with cupping reports, lot sheets, provenance evidence, and third-party validation — before it is offered for sale.

Why Ecosystems, Not Suppliers

Qahwa does not buy "a supplier's coffee." We document a producer ecosystem — the station, the surrounding collines, the processing discipline, the cooperative structure, the environmental practices, and the quality record across seasons — and then we source from inside that documented ecosystem.

This distinction matters because a single relationship can end. A documented ecosystem persists, and our documentation standard travels with us to the next one. The authority object is not any one producer — it is the documentation itself.

The Documentation Framework

Every ecosystem we add to this portfolio is assessed and published against the same framework:

  • Provenance — country, province, commune, station, exact altitude range, and the specific collines or farms supplying cherry.
  • Processing — method, fermentation discipline, drying duration, and dry-milling location, recorded precisely rather than described loosely.
  • Quality evidence — cupping scores from the cooperative and, wherever available, independently published scores from other distributors of the same station's coffee, so a buyer can cross-check rather than take our word for it.
  • Environmental and community context — verifiable practices and recognitions, cited to their original source rather than restated as an unattributed claim.
  • Three-document chain — an ICO Certificate of Origin, a phytosanitary certificate, and a cupping report accompany every shipment as standard, not as an exception made for difficult buyers.

The Founding Ecosystem

Kavugangoma, in Mwakiro Commune, Muyinga Province, Burundi, is the first ecosystem documented under this framework — not because it is the only one we will ever source from, but because it was the first to meet the standard in full, with documentation that arrived before we requested it.

What Comes Next

This framework is built to scale. Additional Burundi ecosystems, and in time ecosystems in Rwanda and Kenya, will be added under the identical structure: the same provenance fields, the same processing detail, the same quality evidence, the same three-document chain. A new ecosystem entering this portfolio does not require a new framework. It only requires meeting the one that already exists.

One founding ecosystem. Built to grow.
